Blackout periods and overlaps

Nobody should take vacation during the year-end closing, and before approving, the manager wants to know who is already away in the same period. Bricksta shows both right on the request — never the reason for an absence.

Adding blackout periods

Anyone allowed to “Manage personnel data” opens Organization › Calendar › Blackout periods and chooses “Add blackout period”. A blackout period has a name, dates, a type, and applies to everyone or to one group only.

NoticeThe request remains possible. Requester and approver see the notice with the name of the blackout period.
Hard blockA request with approval can't be submitted. If it was submitted before the blackout period was added, approving fails — the message names the blackout period. A cancellation remains possible, a change into the blackout period doesn't.

What the request shows

On the task — in the case and in My work — you see before submitting and when approving which blackout period touches the dates and who from the same groups is already away in that period, e.g. “2 other team members absent” with names and dates. Names are shown to whoever decides on the request (approver, manager, “Manage personnel data”); everyone else only sees the people they also see in the team calendar. An overlap is always just a notice; approving remains possible.

It counts what the team calendar also shows as absent. People without a group have no team, so no overlap appears for them. Deleting a blackout period ends it at once — even for requests already submitted.
